Leverkusen have confirmed that they will be returning to the Bundesliga next season after finishing second in their Champions League group stage campaign.

The German club were knocked out of the competition by Liverpool on penalties and then suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to Manchester City in the round of 16.

However, despite those results, Leverkusen finished second in Group B behind Bayern Munich and will now play in Germany's top flight again next term.

Manager Peter Stöger has been praised for his leadership during the season, but he is likely to face some tough decisions when it comes to squad selection for next year's league campaign.

One player who could feature heavily in the side next season is defender Kevin Volland, who has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Volland has been a key figure for Leverkusen since joining from Ajax last summer and has made over 50 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

He scored six goals in the Bundesliga and contributed four assists, helping the team finish in second place and qualify for the Europa Conference League.

However, there may be other players who will be looking to impress under new manager Stefan Siefert and compete for places in the starting XI.

Overall, Leverkusen will be hoping to build on their impressive domestic form and challenge for honours once again next season.
